Overload
Lately, I witnessed more and more people buying things from Costco. The sad thing is I also witness more and more people throwing things away because of Costco. Costco has completely erased all American's mind about the idea of "get what you need". Instead, everyone who stepped into this giant warehouse has inherited the perception of "get all you can". They begin to forget how much cash they have in their wallet, because they take American Express. People in Costco are just like those hungry people lining up for a buffet, the massive quality are so appealing that they thought they are getting a good deal, but in fact the truth is it takes them a lifetime before they can finish it. Just because their products are 1 dollar or 2 cheaper than a regular store, they would be willing to spend hundreds of dollars in a normal grocery shopping trip. Especially with their long wait in the cashier line, they all think it's not worth it unless the cart has full load of stuff!
Now I understand why obesity is a growing problem in American. It's because of these stores like Costco and Sam's club, everyone is carrying these mega giant bags of food home and store them. When you have a household that have 5 or more people, perhaps you will be able to finish the food before it expires. But once again, a person tends to eat more when they see there is lots to offer... same concept as buffet. For household with less than 5 people, they are less fortunate. In order to finish the food before it expires, they would stuff them up into the stomach, until they are sick of it... or else down to the garbage can, generating more waste to the environment.
Because of Costco, I have a giant box of plastic wraps that was inherited from my friend two years ago, and not even close to half finished. I am also opened my second jar of honey bear yesterday, which my roommate bought 3 jars a year ago.
So I really think that Costco should go back to their wholesale business only and stop harming the household consumers. Trust me, they really aren't that cheap and definitely not worth it if you want a healthy life.

Don't speak bad about Costco. It's the people not Costco. I love Costco. Costco and AAA are my two favorite memberships.
However, I agree, it IS too much food. I only buy non-perishables and services like film processing, electronics, office supplies, and so on.
